What is artesian water?
Artesian water is water that gushes freely from the earth’s surface without human intervention. In other words, no drilling and no people are needed to extract water from the water table. So it’s a natural process in which preserving and respecting the place of water in nature’s cycle is central. Coming from an artesian well where no human contact is required, the purity and quality of artesian water are preserved.
There are several brands of artesian water. One of the best known is Fiji artesian water, from the islands of the same name. Another artesian water is the thousand-year-old Bonneval water, which comes from Savoie in the heart of the French Alps. Its source is located 6 kilometres from Bourg-Saint-Maurice in the Haute Tarentaise, more precisely at the junction of the village of Versoye, on the road to Les Chapieux and Le Cormet de Roselend.
What is the composition of Bonneval’s artesian water?
Bonneval’s water has the particularity of having circulated for over 1500 years in the Alpine rocks before gushing out naturally at its point of emergence. In fact, 80% of the water has travelled for over 2000 years. Nearly two millennia have passed between the time the water touched the ground and the time it emerged naturally, making it a precious resource.
Bonneval water is extremely pure and has a unique mineral balance. It is a calcic sulphate water, meaning it contains sulphates, calcium, magnesium and bicarbonates. To give it this unique signature, it acquires all these minerals during its thousand-year journey in contact with the rocks of the Alps, particularly gypsum sedimentary rocks.
Furthermore, the dry residue of Bonneval water – the level of minerals present after evaporation of the water – is 1391 mg/L. At between 500 and 1500 mg/L, Bonneval water is therefore moderately mineralised and perfectly recommended for everyday consumption.
What are the benefits of artesian water?
To keep your body (organs, tissues and cells) working properly, it’s essential to drink water every day. On average, we recommend drinking 1.5 litres of water a day. A lack of daily hydration can lead to health problems of varying degrees of seriousness, such as dizziness, loss of consciousness, low blood pressure, loss of skin elasticity, rapid heartbeat and so on. That’s why we advise you to drink artesian water such as Bonneval water on a regular basis. It’s the only water in France to have health-promoting properties and is suitable for all diets.
Sourced from unpolluted groundwater, Bonneval water is invaluable to your well-being because of its natural properties, such as its stable content of minerals (calcium, sodium and magnesium) and trace elements (iron, zinc and fluoride), which are important for your body to function properly. For example, magnesium plays a decisive role in muscles, bones and teeth, but also in neurons. Magnesium deficiency can lead to chronic fatigue, cramps and headaches. Fluoride is also recommended for preventing tooth decay, while sulphates tend to improve kidney function.
