Bonneval, natural mineral water from the Alps: origin, mineral content & purity
How is natural mineral water formed? Why is its composition stable? What makes Bonneval water unique?
Take a journey to the heart of the Alps, at an altitude of over 2,000 meters, where the millennia-long journey of Bonneval natural mineral water begins.
What is natural mineral water?
Natural mineral water is, first and foremost, water of underground origin with a mineral composition that remains stable over time. Like spring water, it is safe to drink at the point where it emerges, without the need for disinfection.
It is a food product in its own right. And because our bodies are mostly made up of water, knowing where it comes from and what its quality is like is essential.
At Bonneval, we believe that every consumer has the right to know:
- Where does its water come from?
- What does it contain?
- How is it protected?
Transparency is a fundamental responsibility in the water sector.
Water that originates at an altitude of over 2,000 metres in Savoie
Bonneval natural mineral water begins its journey at an altitude of between 2,000 and 2,500 metres, in what is known as the catchment area – the zone where rainfall seeps into the rock.
Every drop of water:
- Travels 8 to 12 kilometres underground
- Descends to a depth of 2,500–3,000 metres
- Remains in geological strata for several thousand years
- Is naturally heated to nearly 80°C by geothermal heat
Under the effect of this pressure and heat, the water naturally rises to the surface at 28°C, without the need for drilling.
Bonneval draws water from a surface artesian spring, which flows naturally at a high rate, in a naturally protected high-mountain environment with very little human activity.
A stable and rich mineral composition
Mineral stability is the hallmark of genuine natural mineral water.
Bonneval Water presents:
- A dry residue of over 1000 mg/L, indicating its long journey through the rock
- A high calcium content, as well as a significant amount of magnesium
- A high bicarbonate content, ideal for recovery
This composition actually consists of:
- A mineral water with character
- An excellent water for rehydration
- A water available in still and sparkling versions
Contrary to popular belief, water carriers do not determine the properties of water: these are dictated by nature.
Naturally pure and protected water
Natural mineral waters are delicate: they spend years, or even thousands of years, protected from oxygen and the microorganisms present in the air.
To be classified as natural mineral water, the water must be bottled directly at the source.
At Bonneval :
- Daily checks are carried out at the spring
- The water is guaranteed to be free from PFAS and pesticides
- It strictly complies with the regulations issued by the health authorities (ARS : Agence Régionale de Santé)
- It is bottled directly at the spring and retains the same characteristics in the bottle as it does at the source
The term ‘natural mineral water’ is a guarantee:
✔ Fit for consumption at source
✔ Stable mineral content
✔ Complies with health standards
✔ Untreated, unfiltered
